The wedding cake is often proudly and strategically placed during the wedding reception. Often towering way up into the heavens, it can compete with the bride as the ”center of attention” on her big day. This delicious work of art establishes a focal point that the other aspects of the reception can revolve around. For those who prefer a flare for the dramatic, the wedding cake can be wheeled into the room at the end of the reception, providing a ”grand entrance” for everyone to see. To many people this grand entrance will perhaps trigger memories of the bride who walked down the aisle earlier in the day.
Always refrigerate to let the frosting set. Once it’s set, cover the cake in fondant. Set your cake in a cake box that has room for it to fit without the fondant touching the top or sides of the box. Refrigerate again to set. This is your insurance policy when you deliver the cake. If the party is at your house, and it’s cool inside, you can leave it out. Refrigerating this kind of cake makes it easier to slice so that the filling doesn’t ooze out of every slice. You want a nice presentation. When you cake is removed from the refrigerator, please remember to give it time to ”sweat.” Don’t touch it during this period or you will leave a mark. Let the cake come to room temperature. Usually, by the time you travel to your destination, and it’s time to serve the cake, the fondant will be okay to slice and the dewy, shiny look will be gone.
Competence – Is your Wedding Cake Maker skillful enough to make the cake that you want and with the professional finish that you dream of? The easiest way to determine this is to take a look at examples of their work, nowadays most Cake Makers have websites which are a great way of reviewing a prospective bakers work and you can often get a sense of how experienced and professional they are from how they present themselves.
The alternative is to try and get to know your Cake Baker in advance. Initiate a rapport with them and if they have a blog or participate in social networking or writing articles (such as this one) then read what they are writing and get to know what drives them and whether their goals and personalities align with yours. You need to feel that they take pride in their work and that they will treat your cake with the importance and attention that it deserves and that they want to make your dreams a reality and not treat it as just another cake that they need to make in order to pay their bills.
