Have you thought about staging your masterpiece? This comes next. Be sure to take the wedding cake stand into consideration during your planning phase. While some cakes can be simply placed on flat boards that will not be seen by the general public, others are elaborately displayed on beautiful stands for everyone to see. Keep in mind the simple fact that actual size of the cake table must be in proportion to the actual size of your cake. A table that is too small will make the cake look way too big, while a table that is too large will make it look like a tiny cupcake. And before we forget, your cake table will need a beautiful covering to compliment its strategic location at the wedding reception. Oh, don’t forget the cake knife and cake server. There needs to be a place on the table for these two items as well.
Prepare your cookie sheets – Line each one of your cookie sheets with parchment paper cut long enough so that it extends over the side of the pan so that you can fit the parchment down into the corners. If you are not sure how much parchment paper to use, roll it out onto the cookie sheet and then set another cookie sheet on top of it and push down. Cut the excess parchment paper off. Repeat until all of your cookie sheets are covered. Set them aside.
What about the cake provided by the wedding reception site? What about ignoring it? That cake is being outsourced to a baker skilled in the creation of wedding cakes, then it’s being brought to your wedding and added to your bill with a nice profit markup for the reception hall. There is almost no instance when it makes sense to order this cake over one you can get direct from a baker. Be warned, however, that some reception facilities will CHARGE you for bringing in a different cake. They will refer to it as a ”plating” fee or some other such nonsense, but it can cost over $1 per person if your facility charges such a fee. Better to ask upfront to avoid any surprises to your budget.
When you find the one, that you believe you want. Wait a day or two and go back and taste it again. If you have your meal planned out already and it is something that you can marginally duplicate, do that, eat it and then go to the baker and try the cake again. Or if you liked it on the spot, see if you can take a slice or two home to try it again, with ”the” meal or something similar, so you can see if it will work. If it doesn’t work, you are on your search again, unless you want to change something in your meal. Or just have a dessert reception.
